Fuquay-Varina - William Morris Talley, 82, passed from death to life in the presence of Jesus on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Mr. Talley, (Billy) died at Senter Assisted Living in Fuquay-Varina following a five year struggle with dementia. His mind is now clear, and his voice is strong in the presence of His Savior. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 12:00 - 1:45 p.m., prior to the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church. Born in Durham on November 2, 1928, Billy spent most of his life in Fuquay-Varina. He was employed as a tobacco buyer, a hotel manager, and an insurance salesman. The many boys and girls who passed through Mr. Talley’s 3rd grade Sunday School Class at Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church would attest that his most lasting contributions were performed each Sunday morning. Billy was widely known for his warm personality, his wit, and his beautiful tenor voice. He sang with the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church Choir for approximately 50 years and often sang solos for the congregation. His voice was heard well beyond the church walls through performances at many social functions, including five years with Fuquay’s Falcon Park Jazz Orchestra. In addition to teaching children for two decades, Billy was an honorary member of the Page Sunday School Class. He also served as a deacon and was honored to be made a life-deacon at the church. He loved playing golf and never waivered in his devotion to UNC athletics.
